Residents of New Mexico have two major choices when it comes to academically outstanding military schools. Both schools are for boys and girls in grades 9-12.
The Bataan Military Academy is located in Albuquerque.
The New Mexico Military Institute is in Roswell.
Both schools offer a good variety of challenging courses and they also feature outstanding physical education programs.
Bataan Military Academy Is A DOD Tier One School
Bataan Military Academy is a charter high school authorized by the New Mexico Public Education Department. It is a day school and attendance is free, although there are charges for uniforms and special activities. The school believes in the motto of Excellence Through Education and features a low student to teacher ratio with an average class size of 18.
The school has received accreditation from AdvancEd, an international educational group. Cadets are members of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Bataan Battalion. This is a youth organization supported by the U.S. Navy, the Department of Defense and the U.S. Congress.
This highly rated military educational institution has a focus on leadership training and developing young people into independent, respectful, honest and self-reliant adults. There is no requirement to join the military after graduation from BMA, although many Cadets choose military service. Others go on to traditional colleges. All graduates have learned what it is to be successful in learning for a lifetime, along with being highly motivated, with the discipline and focus they need to do well.

New Mexico Military Institute Is A Coed School
A four-year high school and a junior college, the New Mexico Military Institute is a boarding school that enables students to continue with their military education into a junior college experience. The school adheres to a strict honor code, which is based on the honor code at West Point, instituted in 1921. It states that “A Cadet will not lie, cheat or steal nor tolerate those who do”.
All students are part of the Army ROTC Leadership Program, which gives every Cadet leadership skills and opportunities to put those skills into practice. All Cadets participate in mandatory physical education programs. NMMI holds the belief that physical fitness is a crucial part of total development of the person.
New Mexico Military Institute has received accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges And Schools and from the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS). With an average class size of 15, students receive excellent education and benefit from small class size through individualized instruction. The focus is on preparing students to be the leaders of tomorrow with the highest moral character, honesty, integrity and leadership skills.
