Wentworth is a private military boarding school and is the only co-ed one in the Midwest. Located in Lexington, Missouri about 97% of each graduating class goes on to top schools such as Yale, Harvard, Air Force Academy and West Point. The Wentworth Military Junior College is also located on campus which allows eligible high school students to attend college classes and earn credit early.
Education & Programs
Wentworth is one of the few military schools that has a college on campus. The Academy works on a three tiered program to enhance all students’ education and allow them to graduate with college credit.
The Launching Scholar program allows students to graduate with one semester worth of college credit. The Distinguished Scholar program allows students to graduate with one year worth of college credit.
The highest program is The Accelerated Scholar program, it graduates high school students with an Associate Degree. The Academy also offers summer camps in which students can earn six college credits.
The Academy operates on a reward system, students who achieve good grades are recognized in ceremonies. They can also go out into town to enjoy activities with friends on weekends.
Students follow a military lifestyle with early rising and light outs. Students live in barracks and will have one roommate. Room inspections and evening study hours are mandatory during the week. Unlike other military schools, good students are rewarded on the weekends. They can use Friday study halls as free time and relax on weekends. Numerous sports and extracurricular activities are offered to all students. The Academy also provides events such as movie nights, dances, shopping trips, and the annual Military Ball.
Application and Tuition
Wentworth accepts an average of 60% of applicants yearly. Applicants must fill out the application form, they must also do a campus tour and interview. School transcripts and physical examinations are also required.
Yearly tuition is $29,700 and includes tuition, books, room, board, uniforms, laundry, haircuts, fees and weekly pocket money. The Academy provides scholarships and financial aid based on needs and merit.
